Study on the Crown Size and the Root Resorption Type of Korean Deciduous Teeth

Abstract
This study was carried out to measure the crown size and to determine the root resorption type of the deciduous teeth in Korean.
The author collected 1862 of natural shedding crowns which were consisted of 1015(male;530, female; 485) in upper and of 847 (male;429, female;418) in lower.
And following results were obtained:
1. The averge crown sizes in mm. were as follows:
Name of deciduous Mesiodistal Buccolingual Vertical
tooth crown diameter diameter length
Upper central incisor 6.62 4.88 5.30
Upper lateral incisor 5.51 4.87 5.33
Upper canine 6.62 5.57 5.81
Upper first molar 7.4.4 8.69 5.69
Upper second molar 9.34 9.78 6.03
Lower central incisor 4.29 3.80 4.50
Lower lateral incisor 4.77 4.16 5.23
Lower canine 5.97 5.35 6.35
Lower first molar 8.15 7.14 6.33
Lower second molar 10.25 8.94 6.02
2. The average crown size and the root resorption type of the deciduous in right and left or in both sexes were similar.
3. In the view of physiological root resorption type of the deciduous teeth, the central incisor was repsorpted mainly to the lingual side than to other sides, in the lateral incisor and canine, the lingual resorption type was decreases gradually and a considerable number of mesio-lingual resorption type was appeared accompanied by a large number of horizontal resorption type, and most pf the posterior teeth had horizontal resorption type. And such resorption tendency was remarkable in mandibular teeth.
